Sustainability at Miele

Governance – forever responsible

Responsibility with foresight

As an independent, family-owned company, Miele has always been committed to the interests of its stakeholders – customers, employees, society, and the environment. In the interest of all, we are dedicated to forward-looking corporate management as the foundation of our business activities.

Collaboration

Miele’s corporate culture focuses on people and collaboration – both externally and internally, with customers and employees alike. We believe in working in partnership with our customers and suppliers. Respectful interaction, team spirit, and collegiality are core values that shape our everyday work.

Premium

Our devices, products, and services are designed to help improve people’s lives. This commitment is reflected in our guiding principle „Forever Better”. We combine high quality standards, expertise, ambition, and appreciation to continuously enhance both our products and our company.

Integrity

Miele is committed to preventing corruption and to complying with international standards such as the UN Global Compact and amfori BSCI. By joining the compliance initiative of Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik (BME), Miele strengthens ESG-compliant processes - both within the company and along the supply chain. Additional initiatives and standards, including the Diversity Charter, are described on pages Employees and Supply Chain.

Deep dive for experts

Rules as a strong framework

Compliance is essential at Miele: it protects employees and strengthens the company’s long-term success. Our Code of Conduct and clear internal guidelines support informed decision-making that is consistent with our values. Topics such as anti-corruption, competition law, and conflicts of interest are clearly regulated. Training courses, for example on the Code of Conduct or antitrust law, are mandatory and regularly updated. In addition, Miele voluntarily adheres to the ZVEI Code of Conduct for Responsible Corporate Management in the electronics industry.

Finding a receptive ear

Miele fosters an open corporate culture in which employees can voice concerns and seek advice at any time - confidentially and securely. Internal complaints offices are available at all German locations, and an external ombudsperson provides an additional point of contact. Compliance or human rights issues can also be reported anonymously. The procedure complies with the requirements of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and is reviewed on a regular basis.

Protecting data

We strive to uphold the trust of our customers by maintaining high standards of information security and data protection. To this end, we cooperate with the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), are a member of the Alliance for Cyber Security, participate in the CERT@VDE advisory board, and work closely with recognized security experts. Protecting personal data is a top priority - supported by the GDPR and internal policies. We provide internal training on data protection and IT security, and our Product Security Team serves as a central point of contact. Our digital product promise stands for long-term and secure use.

Engaging in political dialogue

In our dialogue with political stakeholders and associations at regional, national, and EU level, we advocate for effective, verifiable regulation with minimal bureaucracy. Miele is registered in both the EU Transparency Register and the German Lobby Register and is committed to complying with the respective codes of conduct. We contribute our expertise through technical discussions, factory visits, and committee work - for example in the development of EU energy labels, the Ecodesign Regulation, or topics related to digitalisation and consumer protection. Managers and technical specialists are also actively involved in industry associations.
