The World’s 50 Best Restaurants

Voting System

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled every year through a voting process that represents the personal opinions of 1040 global food experts from 26 regions. 40 Chefs, gourmets and journalists per region submit their 10 best restaurant experiences in rank order. There are no fixed criteria: “Taste is fundamentally subjective, so we don’t seek objectivity”, as William Drew from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants team puts it. But there are a few strict rules: Voters must not have financial interests in the restaurants and need to vote for at least four restaurants from foreign regions. This process is entirely confidential and supervised by the independent consultancy Deloitte.

“We simply collate the votes of well-qualified experts from around the world to create a credible list.”
